According to 9to5Mac, the new Apple MacBook Air is codenamed J413 and is expected to be unveiled in a single version with the M2 chip. The M2 chip is codenamed “Staten,” and it is based on the A15 SoC. The M2 chip bears a few similarities to the M1 chip – it has an eight-core CPU, but will come with a 10-core GPU.

The M2 chip will be a successor to the M1, although Apple is reportedly working on M2 Pro, M2 Max, and M2 Ultra.

If insider sources are to be believed, Apple is also launching an M2-powered 13” MacBook Pro in 2022. The 2023 MacBook Pro is codenamed J493. However, the laptop might be launched as “MacBook” as Apple is considering dropping the “Pro” moniker for the device.

According to reports from MySmartPrice and MacRumors, Apple is expected to unveil a new MacBook Air with a 15-inch display in 2022. The Air series will welcome a new variant with a larger display and form factor.

The new Apple MacBook Air 15-inch model will be powered with an Apple M2 Chipset and will feature a larger display and new design. According to display analyst Ross Young, the upcoming 15-inch model could be slightly larger in terms of form factor than the 13-inch model. This means that Apple may have to trim down the bezels to allow a size that is close to the smaller model. 

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple is also considering a large version of the MacBook Air for later this year. However, the Cupertino company may push it forward into the “next generation,” or the 2023 series.

The first 13-inch model will arrive in the second half of 2022. If reports are to be believed, it will bring a refreshed design with white bezels around the 13.3-inch display. The laptop will bring MagSafe charging support, further pushing the trend for magnetic charging. It will sport multiple colorways and a keyboard with a white finish.

The publishers’ trade body, whose members include Axel Springer, News UK, Conde Nast, Bonnier News and Editorial Prensa Iberica, took its grievance to the European Commission, alleging that Google has an adtech dominance over press publishers.

The Alphabet-owned company’s main business is online advertising. In 2020, Alphabet generated $183 billion in revenue. Out of that $147 billion in revenue – over 80% – came from Google’s ad business, according to the company’s 2020 annual report.

The tech giant is a market leader in online advertising for over a decade and is expected to command a nearly 29% share of digital ad spending globally in 2021, according to eMarketer.

The European Commission will assess whether Google has violated EU competition rules by “favoring its own online display advertising technology services in the so called ‘ad tech’ supply chain, to the detriment of competing providers of advertising technology services, advertisers and online publishers.”

Google has been subject to three major EU antitrust enforcement over the last decade. Although, the European Commission has, until now, avoided investigating further into Google’s role in the adtech supply chain.

The latest round of allegations is hardly a surprise for European publishers. For years, publishers have raised concerns over Google’s ad-tech stack, which processed an estimated 90% of all impressions in 2020.

“It is high time for the European Commission to impose measures on Google that actually change, not just challenge, its behavior,” EPC Chairman Christian Van Thillo said in a statement.

“Google has achieved end-to-end control of the ad tech value chain, boasting market shares as high as 90-100% in segments of the ad tech chain,” he said.

EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager has fined Google more than 8 billion euros ($9.2 billion) in recent years for anti-competitive practices in three cases. According to the EPC, Google has “embarked on a barrage of unlawful tactics to foreclose competition in adtech,” since the search engine giant acquired online ad tracking company DoubleClick in 2008. It claims that Google’s strategy of eliminating rivals has earned itself a market share of up to 100 percent in the adtech space.

Google said in a statement that it would engage constructively with the European Commission.
