Casio’s watch face ring may have distracted us for a while, but Oura is back to show us what truly makes a ring “smart.” The new Oura Ring Symptom Radar system allows the ring to check the wearer for early signs of illness by measuring shifts in their biological functions.

The Symptom Radar health tracker has been tested since 2020, but it first came to the public around April 2024, when the feature was released for beta testing. This gave early users a chance to test it out for themselves and participate in its review. The testing must have led to positive results because the company is now releasing the new Oura health tracking feature to all Oura Ring Gen 3 and Gen 4 users who have an active subscription right now.

Oura Ring Introduces the Symptom Radar for Predicting Illnesses

There are two primary areas where wearable smart technology truly shines—fitness activity tracking and health tracking. Smartwatches have grounded themselves into many of our daily routines, but smart rings are still in the process of gaining ground as they have not proved to be quite as useful as a watch.

Now, after spending some months as an experimental feature in Oura Labs, the Oura Ring’s Symptom Radar is all set to make a mark as a premium health tracker. The new feature collects and analyzes biometric data through the ring’s sensor in order to detect unexpected changes or early signs of illness. Whether it’s a change in the resting heart rate or body temperature, or fluctuations in the heart rate or breathing rate, the ring is well placed to track it. Factors like age and inactivity are also taken into consideration.

The ring also uses sleep data to calculate the results and requires at least 7 nights of sleep information from the previous 14 days in order to make an accurate assessment.

What Does the Symptom Radar Health Tracker Do?

The Oura Ring predicts illness by studying fluctuations in the user’s body, tracking over 40 different biometrics, and alerting them to the change. The ring analyses the changes and notifies the user of the change using three severity levels on the app—no signs, minor signs, and major signs. When any signs or fluctuations are detected, the device will recommend that the user relax and turn on Rest mode.

Oura’s work with partners like the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), has allowed the team to analyze anonymized data in order to refine the Symptom Radar health tracker to detect early signs up to two days before the individual logs their illness into the system. Users who heed the warning and get some rest can prevent the sick spell from settling in, boosting their immunity to help in the recovery.

Who Can Use the New Oura Health Tracking Feature?

Oura Ring 3 and Oura Ring 4 users with an active subscription should be able to see the feature on their phones as the feature was launched in December. Once available, users can check the Symptom Radar assessment on the app every morning. Tapping on the Symptom Radar card or going to the Today screen will bring up the daily update.

Our already has an assortment of useful health-tracking features, like pregnancy insights and cardio capacity check, but the new tracker adds another layer of assessment for users.

Now, the Oura Ring’s Symptom Radar is not meant to replace a doctor or a regular health check-up. Early sign detection can help prevent common illnesses, but it isn’t ideal to wait until the ring sends an alert to seek treatment.

Oura even warns that the tool may not “work optimally with pre-existing medical conditions. Pregnancy also impacts biometric baselines and may reduce the accuracy of Symptom Radar.” Pregnant users can turn the feature off to avoid getting false alerts.

It is best to work with a doctor regularly to stay on top of your health, but the Oura Ring can serve as a very reliable assistant through it all.

Working hard to revive user interest in the Apple Vision Pro, VisionOS 2.2 has some new features that enhance the spatial headset’s usability. The headset first launched less than a year ago, and unfortunately for Apple, the demand for the device has remained relatively underwhelming.

Despite the unexpectedly low sales, the gadget is not without a loyal fanbase of users who are patiently waiting for OS changes that can help the device live up to its full potential. According to the recent Apple Vision Pro updates, the VisionOS 2.2 beta 4 developer release is officially live, giving experts some time to tinker around with its capabilities before the public launch that should occur in a week or two.

Let’s dive into all the news we have about the VisionOS release.

Apple Vision Pro updates

Image: The Apple Vision Pro

VisionOS 2.2 Introduces New Features That Primarily Enhance Mac Integration

The latest beta update to the Vision Pro comes only a week after the third visionOS 2.2 beta was made available for review. The VisionOS 2.2 features for developers focus on upgrades to the Mac Virtual Display capability. The current display feature already allows users to mirror their Macs and view their screens on a larger scale through the Vision Pro headset, but it does not fully utilize the device’s expansive spatial capabilities.

Doing away with the limitation of the standard rectangular screen, VisionOS 2.2’s new features allow for a wide and ultrawide projection of the Mac display. This expands how you view your Mac screen, creating a bigger canvas for you to run your apps and interact with them. The Apple Vision Pro does not support multiple displays but at least this way, users can use the Ultrawide setting to view apps laid out in a space equivalent to two 4K displays side-by-side.

VisionOS beta 4 developer release

Image: Before the update, the Mac Virtual Display was limited to a rectangular screen that could only be resized.

Introducing a Higher-Quality Display Output

The VisionOS beta 4 developer release also attempts to improve the quality of the displayed content regardless of which mode you use. With high-resolution visuals, users will be able to view content as is rather than see a downgrade in quality when said content is stretched and expanded to fit the Vision Pro’s display output.

For those who found the previous resolution lacking, the update will reduce the difference in resolution quality between the native VisionOS apps and the mirrored macOS apps.

Revamped Audio Routing for AVP Users

Another one of the Apple Vision Pro’s key updates is that audio from the mirrored Mac will no longer be routed through the Mac and instead be directed through the Vision Pro itself. The absence of this capability was an odd choice to begin with, but it’s enough that Apple has addressed the details now.

The VisionOS 2.2 beta 4 developer release shows us that slowly but surely, Apple is starting to address the complaints that users have had with their Vision Pro headsets, even if the changes appear minor at first glance. These features enhance the usability of the headset, which could serve to bring back interest in the device that was last very early in the game.

We’ve seen a lot of rumors surrounding the headset, from Apple halting production to the company’s attempt to work on a cheaper alternative to reach a wider audience. There is also evidence of an iPhone-powered headset but nothing concrete has been revealed by the company.

If you needed a reason to look forward to 2025, maybe Nothing’s three new phones might be enough to keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming year. For now, the rumored Nothing Phone details are few as we only have word from some of the most well-informed tipsters to go on, however, considering the busy year Nothing has had, it won’t be a surprise to see a full range of new smartphone offerings from the company.

A Geekbench listing for the Nothing phone 3 is at the heart of the excitement around the company’s next venture in the smartphone category, paired with rumors from tipster Yogesh Brar.

Nothing Rumored to Have Three New Phones for 2025—Here’s Everything We Know

Nothing has had quite a few successful launches this year, both in and outside the smartphone category. The Nothing Phone 2 and 2a borrowed from the design aesthetic of the original Nothing Phone, while the Nothing CMF Phone 1 left us with a brand-new take on smartphone design. The Nothing Ear (a) and Nothing Ear (open) also found a loyal customer base that quickly embraced the products’ unique designs.

The Nothing phone 3 was initially expected to see a 2024 launch, but CEO Carl Pei announced that the release had been pushed back. Perhaps Nothing’s three new phones in 2025 will leave us with a fresh series that has both “Pro” versions along with more basic alternatives to cater to a full range of customers.

Geekbench Listing for the Nothing Phone 3

The rumored Nothing Phone 3 details revealed through the Geekbench appearance suggest we’re getting a new device with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 SoC featuring an Adreno 810 GPU. The phone is expected to have 8GB RAM and support Android 15 to power the Nothing OS. The device, codenamed A059, scored 1,149 and 2,813 points in Geekbench’s single and multi-core tests, respectively.

On the surface of things, the SoC may appear to be a little disappointing considering that initial rumors surrounding the phone spoke of a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. The company hasn’t revealed the details of the Nothing phones launching next year, but it may still live up to expectations considering CEO Pei has spoken of a “redefined” smartphone that will come with the AI experiences that everyone is currently looking for in their handsets.

We may also have a Nothing Phone 3 Pro model that takes the specs revealed through the Geekbench data one step further.

Image: Nothing’s clean UI is one of our favorite details and we’re excited to see how it evolves.

Additional Rumored Nothing Phone Details

The Nothing Phone 3 could have a 6.5-inch display while the more “Pro” variant could feature a 6.7-inch display. Some rumors suggest that there could be multiple RAM configurations for customers to choose from. A listing for an A059P phone on the IMEI database suggests this could be the Plus or Pro smartphone with a Dimensity 9400 SoC.

Fans have been hopeful about the possibility of an Action button but there is no concrete evidence to suggest this is a detail we’ll see incorporated. All of Nothing’s three new phones could launch in mid-2025, but there could be a staggered release with only the first model or two in the first half of the year.

The Nothing Phone 3 could be priced at around $599 USD and the Pro variant may be marked up at $699 USD. These numbers are only estimates, but they build on the expectations set by previous launches.

Nothing may or may not continue with interesting design choices like a Glyph lighting configuration on the back, a glow-in-the-dark setup, or even the CMF phone’s modular design, but we love a good surprise and Nothing always delivers in that regard. The company is never coy about the details of its devices closer to launch day, so we’ll likely hear from the source itself soon enough.

The post This New Hybrid Smartwatch Ring Celebrates Casio’s 50-Year Legacy appeared first on Technowize.

]]>
Casio’s 50th-anniversary ring-watch is a little marvel but it isn’t necessarily “smart” in the way we’ve come to understand smart tech today. If you’re in the market for a ring that can also tell time, we’d like to present the Casio hybrid smartwatch ring which was announced recently. Essentially just a ring with a digital watch face, Casio’s new device is designed to look like the geeky but suave timepieces it has been known for during its 50 years in the digital watch business.

Casio previously released a collection of rings that resembled digital watches, but those were just jewelry pieces that didn’t actually function. They looked like they had a digital display but they didn’t do much else other than elevate a boring outfit. The Casio CRW-001 ring watch is a little different.

The Casio Hybrid Smartwatch Ring Is an Innovative Device That Gives Us Something New

Celebrating Casio’s 50th anniversary marking its 50 years of producing digital watches, the company launched the CRW-001 ring to pay homage to its older devices. The stainless steel watch ring resembles the classic Casio GMW-B5000 smartwatch, taking the design aesthetic of the device and compressing it into a much smaller form.

Unlike the Timex ring, however, the Casio hybrid smartwatch ring is not adjustable and comes in only one size equivalent to a US ring size of 10.5. This doesn’t mean it cannot be worn by others with leaner fingers, because the ring comes with spacers that can help a larger variety of people fit it to at least some of their fingers.

The ring is priced at JPY 19,800 (USD 128) and offers its buyers a quirky new way to wear a watch, much like Timex’s new $180 T80 ring watch. That’s a steep price for an accessory, so what do you get in exchange for it?

Casio CRW-001 ring watch

Key Features of the Casio Digital Ring Watch

The new Casio CRW-001 ring watch works just as well as any digital watch but its “smart” capabilities are not what you’d think of in the traditional sense. It does not check your heartbeat or blood oxygen level or even track your steps. You cannot monitor your workout or receive notifications on it, so it isn’t the smart technology that you’re used to. It is, however, smart in the sense that it is a ring that actually tells the time.

This is impressive in its own right, but still far behind the likes of Oura or the Samsung Galaxy smart rings. It’s also true that, unlike the smart rings, this one comes with a small digital time-telling screen, so maybe it isn’t as far behind as one might suspect.

Casio’s digital ring watch has a small six-segment LED screen that tells the time in hours, minutes, and seconds, and the screen lights up, just as you’d expect in a modern digital watch. The three buttons on the side, despite appearing painfully, can help you adjust and view the date or the time in an alternate time zone you set.

The ring watch also features a stopwatch and an alarm, which is an interesting feature for the ring to have. Without any audio function or haptic feedback to emulate a “ringing” alarm, the screen flashes to alert you.

Unfortunately, it does not have a calculator to truly embrace Casio’s legacy. They’ve managed calculator watches before, so who’s to say a calculator ring won’t be launched for their next major milestone? The hybrid ring watch is waterproof and it has a battery that should keep it going for two years, after which it can be replaced easily.

If the Casio CRW-001 ring watch has sparked your interest, you’ll be disappointed to know that it will be exclusively available in Japan. The device will release in December and it may have a limited release even within the region, so those who want to get their hands on it will have to be quick to place their orders.

Its cooling system is extremely fascinating, but the smartphone’s 7050mAh battery is what has everyone talking.

We’re all typically enthralled by everything the popular smartphone brands like Apple and Samsung get up to, but the more inconspicuous companies also offer pretty groundbreaking devices. After Huawei’s tri-fold marvel, we now have the RedMagic 10 Pro Plus launching in China, with its massive 7,050mAh silicon-nitride battery with 120W charging.

The RedMagic 10 Pro Plus specs are impressive, to say the least, and from everything we’ve heard, it appears to be a gamer’s dream. With an advanced Snapdragon chipset, a sizable display, and impressive storage, the smartphone could certainly allow you to play your favorite games for hours.

The RedMagic gaming phone is being released in China for now, but the global launch of the non-Plus version is not too far away.

RedMagic 10 Pro Plus Launches to Applause—Who Wouldn’t Love a 7050mAh Battery

Nubia just launched the RedMagic 10 Pro and RedMagic 10 Pro Plus in China. Its predecessor, the RedMagic 9 Pro was impressive in its own right, but Nubia’s latest devices have raised the stakes even further.

Right from its appearance, the smartphone appears quite interesting. It has rounded edges but is still quite a bit more sharp-edged and boxy than many other smartphones on the market. The back of the smartphone has some interesting design elements that remind us of the original Nothing Phone, but in no way is it an imitation. The “X” on the back must stand for “10,” but it looks too much like the Twitter/X symbol for our liking.

It features a simple, minimalist design and the lack of any cutouts on the display screen adds to its clean aesthetic. You can still take selfies as it has a 16MP supported by under-screen camera technology, so you don’t have to worry about losing out on the basic smartphone feature.

What’s more, the device still has a 3.5mm audio jack for those who want the option of using wired earphones. It’s simple considerations like these that often seal the deal for us.

RedMagic 10 Pro Plus Specs—The Phone Promises to Stay Cool as a Cucumber

Diving into the RedMagic 10 Pro Plus specs, the first detail of note is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC that powers the smartphone. This industry-leading chip is supported by a Red Core R3 gaming chip designed by RedMagic for 2K, 120fps super-resolution, and super-frame concurrency.

If you need further proof that RedMagic has designed a gaming phone, it also features the new “Hot Wheels” high-speed centrifugal fan that spins at 23,000 rpm for advanced internal cooling. Paired with the liquid metal cooling technology that showcases a thermal conductivity rate 13 times higher than that of thermal conductive gel, the device is designed to support your lengthy gaming sessions without breaking a sweat.

The dual X-axis linear motors are designed to provide haptic feedback efficiently for all in-game activity, and you can also make the most of the two 520Hz shoulder buttons to better control your gaming experience.

The RedMagic 10 Pro Plus Display Doesn’t Plan to Let You Down

The device has a 6.85-inch AMOLED screen that shows off its 216×2688 resolution. The 144 Hz refresh rate and 960 Hz touch sampling rate paired together guarantee that you won’t miss a moment of your game.

The RedMagic 10 Pro Plus display can manage 2,000 nits peak brightness and while this isn’t groundbreaking, it’s not a bad deal in the slightest. There is support for DC dimming and 2,592Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, so it is extremely adaptable and designed to last long hours.

Nubia RedMagic 10 Pro Plus Camera Setup

The hidden 16MP under-display selfie camera is a very thoughtful addition to the RedMagic gaming phone. Along with this, the rear triple-camera setup is also quite noteworthy. We have a 50MP OmniVision OV50E40 sensor with f/1.88 aperture, a 50MP 120-degree OmniVision OV50D ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture, and a third 2MP macro OmniVision OV02F10 camera.

Apart from serving its purpose for gaming, the RedMagic smartphone is designed to meet your other daily needs as well.

The RedMagic10 Pro Plus’ Battery is the Real Show Stealer

Most smartphone makers choose to make a sharp difference in the quality of the lower and higher-priced models, but the specs of the two smartphones in Nubia’s RedMagic 10 Pro series only differ in terms of the battery. It is also worth noting that even the lower-priced model has an impressive battery capacity, so you won’t be disappointed by the RedMagic 10 Pro either.

The RedMagic10 Pro Plus sports a 7050mAh silicon-carbon battery that is capable of 120W fast charging. On the other hand, the RedMagic10 Pro has a 6500mAh battery, which is still a good addition, and it has 80W fast charging capabilities.

Sealing the Deal with the RedMagic10 Pro Plus Pricing Strategy

The two devices in the RedMagic 10 series are priced differently of course, but there are also variations in the price depending on which color and finish you opt for.

RedMagic 10 Pro Plus Variant RAM/Storage  Pricing
Dark Knight/Day Warrior 16GB/512 GB ¥5,999 (approximately $829)
Dark Knight  24GB/1TB ¥7,499 ($1,038)
Deuterium Front Transparent Dark Night/Silver Wing 16GB/512 GB  ¥6,299 ($870)
RedMagic 10 Golden Saga Limited Edition 24GB/1TB ¥9,499 ($1,312)

The RedMagic 10 Pro Dark Knight variant with 12GB/256GB storage starts at ¥4,999 ($691), and depending on the finish and storage preference, the price goes up.

With the RedMagic 10 Pro Plus’ launch announcement, it was revealed that the device is available for pre-orders and will begin shipping on November 18, 2024. Online sources suggest the RedMagic 10 Pro, not the Plus variant, will become available globally on December 3.

So if the RedMagic gaming phone has caught your eye, there isn’t too long of a wait until you can place your own order. The RedMagic 10 Pro appears just as efficient as its more expensive compatriot, although its battery is not as impressive.

Venturing into a new category of products is never easy, especially when you aim to sell an exclusive device that few can afford. After the unimpressive launch of the Apple Vision Pro, the company is now looking into selling an iPhone-powered Vision device that could be more accessible to a wider range of consumers.

We’ve heard a few conflicting rumors about the future of the Vision Pro headset so far. Initially, there was only talk about Apple working on a more affordable headset that would appeal to a wider range of consumers. This was expected to retain the form factor of the current device. Now we learn that these plans have been delayed beyond 2027, and an iPhone-powered headset could be redesigned into smart glasses instead.

Are we then looking at a possible launch of two separate Apple AR/VR/MR devices? It’s quite likely.

_iPhone-powered headset

Using the iPhone to Power a Vision Device? It Could Be the Solution to Apple’s Headset Dilemma

The Apple Vision Pro is an interesting device and what’s remarkable is that the headset handles all the computing on its own. Paired with the camera systems and efficient display, it becomes doubly expensive to produce. Apple has been rumored to be working on a more affordable headset, but just how it will cut costs and make it more feasible has been up for debate.

Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who is known for his insights into the Apple ecosphere, suggested that Apple is “seriously considering a device that offloads the computing components to an iPhone and serves as an accessory for watching movies.”

An iPhone-powered headset could greatly reduce the processing demands on the Vision Pro, reducing the cost of producing it as well.

An iPhone-Powered Headset Could Result in AR Glasses

Glasses like the XREAL Air 2 have already showcased smartphone-aided functioning so we know it’s not impossible. Meta’s Raybans are the best in the futuristic glasses category, so Apple would have to put forth something even better and make an entirely new product compared to the one they have.

Apple has repeatedly marketed the Vision Pro as a “spatial computer,” and the gadget is indeed involved in a lot of processing. The current headset has high computing and power demands that would quickly kill the iPhone’s battery.

Even if users are willing to sacrifice their already short-lived iPhone battery for the headset, they would barely get much use out of the headset. There is also the potential risk of the device overheating instantly.

With an iPhone Vision device, we can expect to see a pair of AR glasses emerge rather than the VR headset we have right now, so its purpose and functionality would be entirely different as well. An iPhone-powered headset could be good for the company, but it does not appear that it could claim to be a more affordable alternative or a replacement for the current headset.

Apple affordable headset

Apple’s Work on an Affordable Headset Remains Central to Its Plans

The Apple Vision Pro headset is a marvel of a device. It has some advanced capabilities that put it ahead of its competitors and it also looks better than any of them. Despite its innovation, the headset does have a large number of flaws. It is pricey, which makes it a viable purchase for a smaller number of customers and inaccessible to a large number of its user base that might be interested in such a headset.

It also isn’t as versatile in its application just yet. The biggest inconvenience of using the device is its long-term functionality, where many users have complained of headaches and dizziness on using it, and others see no point in bringing it out too frequently.

Work on a Vision Pro 2 has reportedly been halted entirely to focus resources on an affordable Apple headset. Securing some loyal customers for the device and its future iterations is in the company’s best interest.

Vision Pro Headset Production Issues

Setting aside the work on future devices, the current Apple Vision Pro is also facing some conflict over lining up production and demand. Apple is looking to halt Vision Pro productions by the end of the year. Sources suggest that the demand for the $3,499 device is relatively low, so producing additional stock of the device will not work in the company’s favor. As it is, components are piling up already and Apple is said to have enough parts already available that will last it through next year.

To sum it all up, the current Apple Vision Pro will continue to be available for consumers, but Apple will have to readjust how many units it produces. Work on the Vision Pro 2 has been paused for now. Before it gets a release, we’re likely to see a budget-friendly Vision model, but even this should be set for a 2027 release.

The iPhone-supported Vision device could take on the form of glasses instead of a headset, but we have no evidence on whether Apple has begun work on it or if we are drawing closer to seeing a fixed timeline for its release. Fans are in favor of the move, but will Apple be able to pull it off in the next 2 years?

Apple’s self repair program has acted as a lifesaver these past few years, giving customers a way to undo some of the minor damage to their device all by themselves.

The rewarding feeling of being a self-sufficient icon is one of the benefits of the Apple self-service program, but it is also a more cost-effective and time-efficient way of repairing a device for many. Providing the iPhone 16 replacement parts to consumers makes it much easier for a user to address some of the problems by themselves quickly without having to reach out to customer service.

Apple’s iPhone 16 DIY Repair Kit Is Now Available

After you pay hundreds of dollars to get your hands on the iPhone 16, it can be extremely heartbreaking to see the shattered screen every time you glance at your phone. Considering how much we use our smartphone on a daily—and hourly—basis, the pain of a damaged camera or screen can echo through your day repeatedly.

There is, of course, the option of reaching out to customer service to check if the device can be repaired, but there are a lot of costs involved in the process. In addition to arranging to have someone pick up and drop off the device, you also have to spend a few days with a backup phone, which is never fun.

The other option is to find a service center and drive yourself there in the hopes that they have the parts necessary to fix your phone, but this can be just as big of a hassle. Apple’s self-service program comes in clutch under these circumstances, allowing you to obtain the necessary parts and do the repairs yourself.

Before the program, many customers were inclined to reach out to third-party providers who could service the device at a more affordable price. Since the program launched in 2022, Apple has made it possible to obtain authentic iPhone replacement parts and service a device, thus ensuring that even for at-home repairs, Apple still gets to capitalize on the money spent on the iPhone.

How Can You Fix Your iPhone 16 at Home?

Despite any reservations you might have with Apple, you have to admit that the Cupertino company knows a thing or two about building an independent ecosystem of needs and providing the services to satisfy them. Apple’s self-service is not designed for an absolute beginner who is entirely unfamiliar with technology, but it is easy to follow for someone with a basic knowledge of tools and technology.

The company released the repair manual for all four iPhone 16 models—iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max—back in September. Now, customers in the U.S. and some parts of Europe can order the parts they need to fix their smartphones themselves or have someone do it for them.

The Apple Self-Service Repair Store provides spare parts for all kinds of damage to your device. You can find replacement displays, back glass, camera, batteries, etc. and if you need some of the more delicate tools to conduct the repairs, you can rent out a tool kit for 7 days as well.

Should You Try to Install the iPhone 16 Replacement Parts Yourself?

As fun as it sounds to take on a DIY approach to the iPhone 16 repair, you should still be cautious. The advantage of reaching out to customer service is that they have a better understanding of how to diagnose the actual reason for a problem you’re facing. Self-diagnosing the issue may leave you with an assortment of expensive parts and a still-faulty iPhone.

Apple’s self-service program is best used when the problem is extremely apparent to the user, such as a cracked screen or camera lens. Regardless of whether there is anything more severe wrong with the device, these parts will obviously need to be repaired.

The price of the iPhone 16 replacement parts is also worth considering. A replacement display for the iPhone 16 series can range from $279 to $379. Depending on the model, batteries are available for $99 or $119. To execute the repair work, you’ll likely also have to rent out a repair kit that costs around $49.

This doesn’t mean that Apple’s self-service is more pricey compared to the process of reaching out to Apple’s customer care. Both come with their own costs and benefits depending on what feels more convenient to you. If you’re an Apple Care Plus subscriber, these costs are much more manageable.

The ability to fix an iPhone 16 at home is a pretty generous gift from Apple, and this factor, combined with the upcoming iOS 18 update, makes it a good time to invest in the company’s latest smartphone series.

PS5 vs PS5 Pro—What Are 3 Reasons for Investing in the New Console? https://www.technowize.com/ps5-vs-ps5-pro-what-are-3-reasons-for-investing-in-the-new-console/ https://www.technowize.com/ps5-vs-ps5-pro-what-are-3-reasons-for-investing-in-the-new-console/#respond Mon, 11 Nov 2024 13:24:32 +0000 https://www.technowize.com/?p=42992 Trying to wrap your head around the specs of the PS5 vs the PS5 Pro? Here are 3 primary improvements showcased by Sony’s new console.

Midcycle refreshes are more often a miss than a hit, but the PS5 Pro is making a good case for itself. Comparing the PS5 vs the PS5 Pro, the newer console is considerably more efficient at guaranteeing a top-tier gaming experience, although it’s not without flaws. At $699.99, the console has most gamers hesitating over the purchase, especially when you consider the lack of a built-in disc drive.

Sure, you can purchase an attachable drive for $79.99, but does the PS5 Pro make sufficient hardware improvements for it to be worth your money? Especially if you were among those who invested in the PS5 Slim, it feels too soon to consider an upgrade.

If you’re looking for a review of what makes the PS5 Pro better than the original PS5, then we’ve got some comparisons in store for you.

PS5 Pro vs original PS5

PS5 vs PS5 Pro: Which Console is Right for You?

Breaking down the PS5 model comparison, we have a few different categories to consider. For a buyer, the two primary considerations are price and performance. If you want to invest in PS5 Pro, the $699.99 is a tough ask for many gamers, especially those who enjoy purchasing and playing via physical media. The lack of a disc drive was one of the key flaws of the PS5 Slim, and that design element continues with this model as well. Want a stand to mount it vertically? That costs another $30.

If you want to save your money to spend on games instead of the console itself, then the $499.99 PS5 is a decent console for you to purchase. The console will not become entirely redundant anytime soon, but you do have to be open to inferior graphics quality, especially considering the AI-based advanced processing that newer games will embrace.

For the PS5 Pro to be worth your money, its hardware improvements and advanced graphics need to be noteworthy, and much to Sony’s credit, the device is actually impressive.

The PS5 Pro Differences Start From the Storage

Yes, the PS5 Pro lacks a disc drive but it does a pretty good job of expanding its storage capacity to handle your digital library of games. The console boasts a 2TB SSD that can support the download of extremely large game files quite easily, and it is also paired with support for M2 SSDs.

Even with multiple large-sized games coupled together, you should have sufficient space to keep playing with no worries over impaired quality. With the original PS5, you would have had to resort to purchasing an external SSD pretty early on, so the storage of the PS5 Pro is a good step up.

The PS5 Pro Hardware Improvements Make the Console Impressive

The PS5 Pro has a new GPU with 67% more compute units and 28% faster memory, which leaves us with 25% faster rendering. The CPU hasn’t been tampered with but there are other AI-boosted tools to look forward to. With the PS5 Pro, you get a standard 4K resolution 60fps gaming, but the console also supports 8K gaming.

Granted you would require a monitor or TV that is able to guarantee such high-spec visual quality, so not everyone will be in a position to experience its full potential. You would have to be extremely serious about your gaming setup in order to consider the 8K TV a worthwhile investment.

The console also has support for Wi-Fi 7 as opposed to the Wi-Fi 6 on the PS5. This will mean that you can download big game files much quicker. Again, this would require you to upgrade your home network first, before you can make the most of its capabilities.

AI Upscaling Gives the PS5 Pro A Leg-Up

The PS5 has support for ray tracing, but the Pro tag comes with “advanced” ray tracing that guarantees better visuals for all your games. This means better lighting and shadows in your games, with an enhanced depth to them that you may not have seen before.

This feature is supported by the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaler, which is designed to bolster the frame rates without any dip in quality. Using the mystical powers of machine learning, the AI tool should be able to clear up the details on your screen and enhance it for a crisp output every single time you boot up your console.

The console is designed so gamers don’t have to choose between Performance mode and Fidelity mode and can instead enjoy the best of both worlds.

From most demos of the PS5 vs PS5 Pro, the differences have been hard to tell in terms of graphic quality, but Sony is insisting that you’ll appreciate the differences more when we get more games specifically designed to optimize the perks of the new console.

The PS5 Pro Game Boost also promises enhanced performance of over 8,500 backwards-compatible PS4 games even without developer patches, so you can return to your former favorites and find yourself pleasantly surprised.

PS5 Pro vs the Original PS5—Final Thoughts

When you compare the PS5 vs the PS5 Pro, the primary reason to upgrade would be to support future games and make the most of long-term changes to the gaming industry. If you already have a PS5 console, the more compact size of the PS5 Pro may be appealing, but the trade-off is the console’s more segmented, unappealing design.

The PS5 Pro guarantees a phenomenal visual experience on occasion and while you may not be able to tell the difference as you compare them on the go, the ability to maintain the graphics without a drop in frame rates midgame can be invaluable.

If you’ve found your Samsung Galaxy Watch alarming you with random vibrations, know that it is not the spirit of Halloween possessing your watch. Many Galaxy Watch owners have reported “phantom vibrations” that appear suddenly, unconnected to any notification or update on the device. The screen does not light up and there are no alerts to check either.

The haptic feedback connected with these random alerts on the Samsung watch can be unnerving and annoying if they start to occur too frequently. It can also be concerning for users to face unexpected issues that could be indicative of some damage or permanent issues with the device.

Galaxy Watch Users Report Random Vibrations That Set Their Device Abuzz

The random alerts and phantom vibrations have been associated with the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Users took to the Samsung Community forum to explain this issue and posts in relation to the problem appear to have been floating around since August. The lengthy timeline suggests that users have had their watches for a while and encountered the problem frequently enough to know that they aren’t imagining the vibrations.

Most users who have experienced the vibrations say that it often takes the form of one buzz followed by three quick ones. The simple haptic feedback sounds like a minor non-issue at first, but if it keeps distracting you from your task frequently or occurs while you’re trying to sleep, it can be a real annoyance. Especially after you pay such a significant amount of money to obtain it, a smooth experience is much preferred.

There have also been a few complaints of the battery draining quickly amidst the complaints of the vibrations.

Galaxy Watch Vibration Troubleshooting

So far, there is no conclusive evidence of what is causing the issue. Users have tried to experiment with different apps to see what the source of the problem is, and while some of them state they’ve found success in getting rid of the random vibration on their Galaxy Watches, others have not been able to duplicate their results.

One explanation for the vibrations is the Google Maps mirroring option. Opening the Google Maps feature on the watch, going to settings, and turning off the mirror on the phone have helped some users get rid of the issue.

Another explanation that users have offered for the phantom vibrations is a connectivity issue between the watch and the smartphone. This detail is hard to test or correct, but a factory reset of the smartwatch could address the lingering issue.

WhatsApp has also been identified as a potential culprit, and the best way to check if it is the problem is to uninstall the app from the watch and see if the issue persists. This sounds like a cumbersome procedure, but it could lie at the heart of the matter. Similarly, some users were able to fix the random vibrations on the Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra by disabling the Health Platform, but this sounds extremely counterproductive to owning a smartwatch.

If all else fails, the only option left after troubleshooting is to contact Samsung and ask them to provide a solution or repair the device. So far, Samsung has not commented on the issue or provided any explanation on whether this is a hardware or software problem, but with the attention the problem is garnering, the company will have to provide a permanent solution soon. Hopefully, the answer is as simple as a software update that can set things back in order.

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold special edition on October 21st. It is a thinner and more enhanced version of the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung’s global flagship model. The Z Fold special edition has a larger display on the inside and additional memory available for Galaxy AI. The new variant has an upgraded 200 mega-pixel camera and weighs 236 grams, making it lighter than Galaxy Z Fold 6. Unfortunately for US customers, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has launched exclusively in South Korea, with China as the only other market set to receive this limited variant.

On the release of the latest smartphone, Sung-Taek Lim, executive vice president of South Korea said, “The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is a gesture of gratitude to domestic consumers who are leading the foldable market.”

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Specs Revealed

The Special Edition of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold is a slimmer and lighter version of the Z Fold 6 model. The device is priced at 2,789,600 KRW or $2,024, which is slightly more expensive than the company’s flagship variant. It has a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch foldable screen, making it the largest foldable mobile by Samsung.

The memory capacity of the Galaxy Z Fold SE is set at the standard 16 GB RAM. It measures 10.6mm when folded, making it much thinner than other foldable smartphones. It is still based on the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and comes with 512 GB of storage. Despite being a special edition device, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold SE doesn’t resolve many of the issues with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, except for being a lighter and slimmer option.

Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition Vs Pixel 9 Pro Fold – Which is Better?

The Galaxy Z Fold SE has been limited to only two markets and it will not be available in the US. As a result, US consumers need to have an alternative that can fill the void of Samsung’s special edition. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is available in the US market but there are other options available as well, providing better features at lower cost.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is available in the global market for $1,749 and has a Tensor G4 processor. Its cover display is 6.3 inches, making it almost similar to the Z Fold SE display cover size. While the special edition weighs around 236 gm, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold weighs 257 gm, making it 20 gm heavier. When folded, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is 10.5 mm, which is similar to Samsung’s special edition smartphone.

While the size, weight, and display cover may feel similar for both smartphones, the Google phone doesn’t provide a tablet experience like Samsung. According to Google, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers users the experience of two phones in one, allowing for multitasking and enhanced productivity. Its foldable design enables users to operate two apps side by side or enjoy a larger display for media and gaming, making it a versatile device for various tasks.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is not available for the US market and if you don’t want a flagship Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold can be a good alternative for you.
